The Delphyne - Greek Mythology
The Delphyne - Greek Mythology
Delphyne was an underworld deity, daughter of Gaia. Her body was half human and half snake. She guarded the sinews of the hands and feet of Zeus when her brother Typhon cut them off from Zeus after a battle. Hermes along with Aegipan (son of Zeus) managed to retrieve the sinews and saved Zeus without being detected by Delphyne.
Ultimately, she was killed by Apollo when he occupied Delphi where she guarded the fountain of the oracle. It is also mentioned that Delphi took their name from Delphyne.
